EN Závody Before this article, I have to apologize to the entire bicross community for the fact that today I approved the propositions for BMX races at the Children and Youth Olympics in a format that has nothing to do with bicross. According to my inner conviction, a prank was created and the fact that I approved it is just the result of what bicross at the Children's and Youth Olympics has caused in the minds of some officials. First of all, I have to go back to about 2-3 years ago, when I was approached by the chairman of the Olomouc regional cycling association, whether I would agree to bicross being included in the children's and youth Olympics. At that time, my idea was that it would be run by bi-cross riders, this Olympic sport would appear on TV, I was even ready to prepare the race turnkey and not demand anything from the organizer of this event. Just popularizing the sport would be enough. Already in the germ of this idea, there were opinions that bicross should not be there, but when we made it clear that it would be run by bicross riders, we agreed that the participation of BMX in the children's and youth Olympics is possible. The idea that was presented in the original term was even about the possibility of two-member teams, when it would be made up of a bi-cross rider together with a biker or track rider. Their result would be added. The first date of the Children and Youth Olympics was canceled due to COVID-19, and everything was different in the new one. I don't know who decided that one rider had to do more than one discipline, but even so, the idea of bicross at this Olympics was feasible. Inexplicably, however, it was put a stop to the implementation by some regional chairmen, who categorically opposed their riders completing the bicross course. And I ask gentlemen why? Do you think that a biker or track racer is not able to ride a bicross track without consequences? Are you raising athletes or porcelain dolls? I know what I'm talking about. I got on a bicross bike myself after 30 years and rode last year's Championship of the Czech Republic. And wonder of the world, I am alive and well. I finished the race without falling. And unlike your wards, I don't ride a bike that often. At the same time, the track in Uničov is not one of the most difficult. I do not understand the reason for pushing bicross out of the children's and youth Olympics on the part of these presidents. But what I know for sure is that a rider who is afraid to sit on a bike and ride a BMX track has no business in youth centers or higher sports articles. The bicross bike also has a brake, and if someone's bike goes too far downhill, they can apply the brakes. This is one of the basic cycling skills. Just like anyone who refuses to let their riders down a BMX track (no matter what speed) belongs on the board of shame. Let's not make the Children's and Youth Olympics the most important race of the participants' careers. It's supposed to be about something else... PS: This article expresses the private opinion of its author, not the opinion of the BMX Commission or the Czech Cycling Association. After all, the author is convinced that the problem is not with the drivers, but with the officials. The aim of this article is to start a discussion on the problem, because it does not only concern BMX, but recently also track. Perhaps the conclusion of this discussion will be the consensus that the opinion of some presidents of regional associations based on the premise that the children's and youth Olympics are reserved only for certain cycling disciplines and others, even Olympic ones, are prohibited, is archaic and has no place in modern cycling.
