EN The country that brought bicross to the world hosted the World Championship again after seven years. The Rock Hill BMX Supercross track is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and I must say that even after its first decade, it maintains a high standard. Unfortunately, the Olympic year with the entire racing calendar has waved and apart from the European Championships in Verona, Italy and the national championships, other important international competitions will not be held this year. And quite possibly the date of this year's WC had a huge influence on the course of that "rainbow" race. Závody The championship kicked off in full swing on Sunday, May 12, when the cruiser categories took off. At that time, the weather was perhaps still on the riders' side, or at least that's what it looked like from the live streams. In the following days, the weather full of hurricanes and storms, which is so typical for this state, presented itself strongly. The race on Monday and Tuesday still managed to go in its entirety, but the race on Wednesday, where categories 15, 16 and Masters were also presented, was perhaps unprecedentedly affected by the weather. The overall results were decided by the rules, which are valid but very strict. A title is a title, but maybe forever it will be a "title with a but". The Czech drivers of the challenge category did not follow up on last year's number of final positions. The only one who experienced the taste of the final again after a year was Dominik Ráliš from Pardubice. After finishing his race, he changes his starting number from W1 to W5. Championship categories had free practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to bad weather and probably a slight slippage of the challenge races, these training sessions were cancelled. The first sharp contact with the track came only on Thursday as part of the official training, 55 minutes for each category. followed by a 40-minute warm-up on qualification day. Our representatives improved with each subsequent ride, which was nice. The opening performance was very shaky, however Friday's warm-up looked better and our performance was already a bit more cheerful. Junior Jakub Klement went to the world with decent results from the last races (second place at the EP in Venice, victory at the first ČP in Brno-Liskovec). Technique on the track was his strong point, to which decent starts were added over time. On the other hand, elbow-to-elbow driving, constant contact and scrums, especially in corners, are still not his own. So he had to fight for every ride, and in fact not once was he able to ride the way he had imagined. And quite possibly he did not show his full potential, which he demonstrated in Venice or Lískovec, for example. However, he did not give up riding for the entire WC and even from unfavorable positions he fought and jumped on. Because if he didn't, he could have finished the race much earlier. Sabina Košárková entered the Women U23 race as a silver medalist from the last round of the World Cup. You could say she had momentum on her side. And to some extent she also confirmed it. She managed to progress from the quarterfinals by a hair on the finish line, but judging by the semifinals, it gave her juice. The first corner in the semi-final was very aggressive in her performance, for which she almost paid the price. But she managed the procedure and was the only one of our riders to stand at the start of the final. A fourth-place finish is always a little unpopular, but it's still a huge achievement, which he must now follow up with a great performance at the upcoming EC in Verona. We had two representatives in the Men U23 category. In addition to our regular Marko Neužil, Jakub Vesecký also presented himself at the start of the WC, who made a strong claim for his place at the last EP in Venice. And rightfully so, he traveled to the USA. He was one of the hot favorites in the eyes of many riders and fans. Unfortunately, he didn't live up to the role, or maybe he didn't last. Starts were and are his domain, but on the local track he seemed unable to maintain his pace from the start. He himself felt it, which was visible in his horsemanship. He was very tied up and careful. And that is not enough for a good result at the WC in this category. After the EP in Venice, he had a long racing break and quite possibly this was one of the factors of his performance. Jakub Vesecký, on the other hand, seemed to me to be constantly improving and belonged in the World Championship race. His speed around the track is very decent and if you add a strong first straight (like in Friday's LCQ for example) he can get a nice result. Eliška Bartuňková fought for her participation in the Olympic Games in Paris in the Women Elite category. Like Klement, she also had to work hard for every ride, but she always managed the procedures. According to her, the start in the semi-final went quite well, which she may have paid for in the first corner. Her original plan of taking on her opponents did not go as planned and she had to settle for a semi-final position. If she had not been fighting for a place at the Olympics, she would probably have been satisfied with her performance, as she left behind some very famous names. In two weeks, our representatives have a chance to correct their mistakes and improve their results. We wish everyone the best possible final preparation for the European Championship and we will hope for medal positions.
